Aloha from Oahu

Due to the time change and the morning sun, we were all awake by half past six or so. I went out on our lanai and snapped a selfie which I sent to Tim and Reid for a bit of fun. Next we went out to get breakfast. The restaurant we’d picked already had an hour wait. So we dropped into an ABC Store and got some eggs and cereal.

For our midday activity, we went to the Sam’s Club/Walmart in downtown Honolulu. The experience was a bit surreal to me. Here we were shopping at a place so familiar yet so far away from home.

During the afternoon we headed down to the beach. Much of Waikiki has break walls built a hundred or so feet out in the water. This creates a nice pool of clear water three feet deep to play in. Our favorite thing to do was simply float on our backs. Ella, Lydia, and myself got in a lot of this at one point taking turns gently dragging one another through the water.

For dinner, we fixed spaghetti in our condo. Then we headed out in search of ice cream. The first place we found at my suggestion only had banana flavored soft-serve with all sorts of fruit mixed it. It seemed a bit gourmet, and I bet Beth and I would have liked it, but it didn’t suit the fancy of anyone else in our group so we found another place, Dave’s Ice Cream. Their stuff was okay, but nowhere close to the best thing we’ve ever tasted.
