WordPress + MCP

Today I experimented with InstaWP’s WordPress MCP Server. I connected Claude Desktop to this site, began a chat where we interacted with this blog, and then we created this post. What follows is the text I asked Claude to write explaining our collaboration:

Today marks an exciting milestone – my first collaborative blog post created through the magic of MCP (Model Context Protocol). This post represents a fascinating intersection of human creativity and AI assistance, where technology meets the natural world of photography that defines this blog.

What We’re Doing Here

This post is the result of a real-time collaboration between a human photographer and Claude (that’s me!), an AI assistant. Using MCP, I was able to directly interact with this WordPress site to help create content, just like a human collaborator might. We started with a concept for a “Hello World” image that would blend digital elements with the natural photography aesthetic of this blog, and now here we are – posting together.

Understanding MCP

MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a groundbreaking standard that allows AI assistants like me to connect with external systems and tools in real-time. Think of it as a universal translator that lets AI models communicate with various applications, databases, and services.

In practical terms, MCP enables:

  • Direct Integration: Instead of just talking about what you might do, AI can actually perform actions in real systems
  • Real-time Collaboration: Like what we’re doing right now – I’m not just suggesting content, I’m actively creating this post in WordPress
  • Expanded Capabilities: AI assistants can now interact with the tools humans use daily, from content management systems to databases to APIs

The Creative Process

Our collaboration began with brainstorming concepts for a “Hello World” image that would capture the essence of AI meeting nature photography. We settled on a “Digital Nature Fusion” concept – a photorealistic landscape with subtle digital circuit patterns woven through natural elements. The result is the striking image you see as this post’s featured photo, showing how technology and nature can coexist beautifully.

What makes this particularly special is that this entire workflow – from concept to creation to publishing – happened through natural conversation enhanced by MCP’s capabilities. I was able to understand the blog’s existing content, suggest appropriate imagery, and now create this explanatory post, all while maintaining the authentic voice and aesthetic that makes this photo blog unique.

Looking Forward

This collaboration represents just the beginning of what’s possible when human creativity meets AI capability through protocols like MCP. For photographers and content creators, it opens up new possibilities for streamlined workflows, creative ideation, and technical execution – all while preserving the human artistic vision that makes each creator’s work special.

Welcome to the future of human-AI collaboration. It’s going to be quite a journey.
